Possibly Glasgow’s best kept secret, the west end Tchai Ovna is one of those places advertised by word of mouth. The tea house can be found in a lane on the corner of a lane, advertised by one single board around the block. If you do find eventually find it, you certainly won’t forget it in a hurry. Tchai Ovna’s balcony is a secluded leafy spot under a bridge over the river Kelvin; a traveler’s paradise. The furnishings, vegetarian food, specialty teas and shisha pipes on offer are more hippy than trying-to-be-hip. Tchai Ovna is laidback leisure at its best.

A short walk from the Uni, Tchai Ovna is a magical place where you enter a world of tea. Providing over 80 kinds of tea and excellent vegetarian food, Tchai-Ovna is one of the most unique places to enjoy food in Glasgow. They also play host to music events and lots of exhibitions.

The rooms are lined with wooden benches and studded with teas on the shelves. Tchai-Ovna has an huge array of teas on offer whether on the menu or walls. Students are the main patrons here and during the summer it is the place to hang out, as the patio is a glorious sun trap. A prefect place to enjoy a cup of tea of any variety.

Jamaica Street, Glasgow (1901)
This film is part of the Mitchell and Kenyon collection - an amazing visual record of everyday life in Britain at the beginning of the twentieth century.
